It has been forty years since the moment of the official birth of the style in the United States of America (album “Bitches Brew” by Miles Davis), bringing a lot of new musical possibilities for the future generations. Already in the late 1960s the world jazz musicians started to use rock elements, but the rock musicians are the first pioneers in this field in Slovakia. Jazz rock has been developing in several phases. It is called “fusion“ in the late 1970s and1080’s and in the 1990s it undergoes a “commercialization“ in the form of “funk music“ and “pop jazz“. In this work I wanted to trace the works and activities of important jazz rock formations in Slovakia, as far as many of them vanished already. The attempts to bring artistic and sophisticated aspect into the world of pop music have always been inspiring not only the jazz musicians in creating their works in this style.
